Adobe makes it very easy to create PDFs from InDesign. With Creative Suite 2 and later the programs all share settings with each other and Acrobat Disitiller so you may directly export press-ready PDFs from any program in the Creative Suite. Follow the instructions below for the version you are using. If you have

This guide contains full workflow information for creating, checking and
sending PDFs from Adobe InDesign CS3 and later.
These versions of InDesign will work best with the JSM PDF X4 setting.

This version of InDesign is too old to produce a certified PDF X4 but it will work with the custom JSM "PDF X4 like" setting.

InDesign CS1 is too old to use modern PDF settings and does not share settings with any other programs in the Creative Suite. However PDFs created
using this export filter will work correctly in our
workflow. Download, decompress and install this settings file and/or use
the information in this instruction guide to correctly create clean PDFs
from InDesign CS1.

Print Postscript File - This PDF contains instructions and the correct settings for printing PostScript files under InDesign 2 on Mac OS 9, OS X and Windows.
Making a PDF with InDesign 2 requires the use of Acrobat Distiller. The instructions and joboptions below can be used to properly set up Distiller.
